How EFG calculates your portfolio value

Overall online portfolio valuation

At any point in time, your total portfolio value combines:

  • Real-time positions and cash balances
  • Daily security prices
  • Daily DX contract (derivative contracts) prices
  • FX rates updated every minute

All components are converted into your base currency using the latest available FX rates.

How EFG calculates your portfolio value

Positions and cash – updated in real-time
The following elements are updated online in real time:

  • New positions (when you buy or sell something)
  • Changes to existing positions (partial sales, new purchases)
  • Cash account balances (cash in, cash out, interest, fees)

As soon as a transaction is processed in our systems, your positions and cash balances are immediately reflected in your online portfolio.

Security prices – updated daily
For securities (e.g. shares, bonds, funds):

  • The market prices and market values of your security positions are updated once per day.
  • These daily prices are typically based on end-of-day market data.
  • A limited number of securities may be updated during the day, but this is the exception.

Your nominal (number of units) is real-time; the price per security and therefore the market value follows the daily pricing cycle (with a few intraday exceptions).

DX contracts – prices updated daily
For DX contracts (derivative contracts):

  • The valuation prices for DX contracts are updated hourly in Europe and daily in other locations.
  • The valuation of contracts is done online and displayed.

New DX trades and changes to contracts appear immediately, and their values are based on the latest updated DX prices.

FX rates – updated every minute
For foreign exchange (FX):

  • Spot and forward FX rates are available online and are updated every minute.
  • These rates are used to:
    • Value your FX contracts
    • Convert foreign currency positions and cash balances into your portfolio’s base currency.

This means the FX component of your portfolio valuation is frequently refreshed throughout the day.

Please note, real-time means that the data is fetched and delivered instantly or with negligible delay (typically milliseconds).
