Europe provided the perfect backdrop for a race that delivered plenty of drama. Over the course of the five legs, the teams faced everything from calm seas to shifting winds, fierce storms and sweltering temperatures. Every crew was pushed to the limit, relying on teamwork, resilience and determination to overcome the many challenges along the way.
The fifth and final leg from Genova to Boka Bay saw the lead change hands multiple times before Team Malizia crossed the line in third, clinching their second podium spot of the race. Paul Meilhat's Biotherm secured a decisive victory to claim The Ocean Race Europe 2025 trophy.
After the final coastal race, Team Malizia’s skipper Boris Herrmann said “It feels amazing to end The Ocean Race Europe 2025 on a high. This was the best result we could have achieved today and we gained our fourth place overall. These past six weeks have been an incredible adventure…and we’re very happy with the result as well. But it’s not just about the result, it’s also the overall performance of the team, which has been very impressive. We’ve grown a lot and I’m very proud of everyone.”
The race carried extra significance for Team Malizia, as they bade an emotional farewell to their boat Malizia-Seaexplorer, now entrusted to their teammate from The Ocean Race Europe, Francesca Clapcich, for her Vendée Globe 2028 campaign.
For Team Malizia, it marks the beginning of the next chapter. They will unveil a state of the art boat in summer 2026, before returning to the water for The Ocean Race Atlantic, a new transatlantic challenge from New York to Barcelona in September.
