The 18th edition of Pinta Miami welcomed over 16,500 visitors and represented 45 galleries from 14 countries, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to regional art as well as offering a broader international perspective. Over the years, Pinta Miami has evolved into a vital meeting point for artists, curators, gallery owners, art enthusiasts and some of the world’s leading collectors.
A team of Irene Gelfman, Global Curator of Pinta, Giuliana Vidarte and Angelica Arbelaez created this year’s diverse exhibition. Highlights included the special project ‘To Paint the Forest Beings’, which reflected on the complex relationship with the environment and featured artists from the Peruvian Amazonia. Another was FORO, a forum that brought together over 20 experts, artists, curators, collectors and cultural institutions in a lively series of conversations, panel discussions and debates.
The EFG Latin America Art Award in partnership with ArtNexus was announced at Pinta Miami’s EFG VIP preview evening on Wednesday, 04 December, in front of an audience of over 1,000 guests. Victor M. Echevarria, Chairman, Latin America and Sanjin Mohorovic, Head of Latin America Region, EFG International were joined on stage by Diego Costa Peuser, Director and Founder of Pinta Miami and Celia Birbragher, Editor and Founder of ArtNexus magazine to present the award to Argentinian artist Leila Tschopp. The winning artwork, Pintura Inhumana (Inhuman Painting), was shortlisted at arteBA fair in Buenos Aires and it is part of a compelling series that pushes the boundaries of human perception.
Now in its 14th year, the award was originally established to celebrate the talent of Latin American artists and promote greater interest in five of the region's leading contemporary art fairs, from which the shortlist of nominees is drawn. The winning artwork will now form part of the growing EFG Latin America Art Award collection on permanent display in EFG’s Miami office, a testament to the creativity and diversity of the region.
In his welcome message, Victor M. Echevarria, said “Pinta Miami constantly inspires by bringing together established and emerging artists from the region, fostering the development of new generations of talent and reinforcing our social commitment to the arts. Through our cross-cultural collaborations and our own art collection, we are excited to contribute to the growth and future of art within our community.”
