One of the reasons EFG’s enduring partnership with the Festival stands the test of time is that each edition brings something unique and this year’s rich and diverse line-up showcased the talents of everyone from global jazz legends to the rising stars of tomorrow.
The Festival got off to a fantastic start with Jazz Voice, the iconic opening night show broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. This year’s line-up featured a dazzling array of artists, including Veronica Swift, Marisa Monte, Carmen Lundy, Tony Momrelle, Damian Lewis and the promising young vocalist, Cherise.
Over the course of the 10 days, many performances received widespread critical acclaim, including sold-out headline shows from Pat Metheny and Marisa Monte, and notable concerts from Crosscurrents Trio, Roberto Fonseca and ANOHNI. The BBC's Young Jazz Musician competition marked its 10th anniversary at the Festival, with Bassist Ursula Harrison winning the title. Reflecting the ever evolving spirit of jazz, the Festival also introduced a successful new pop-up venue, The Jazz Social, which hosted live shows, radio broadcasts, DJ sets and artist signings.
The EFG Elements Series returned with a triumphant headline show from Jamie Cullum and memorable performances from Irish singer songwriter Imelda May and legendary Italian jazz-soul vocalist Mario Biondi, who closed the series in style.
